If you had told me five years ago that I would be excited about a delivery that included a book entitled Home Cheesemaking and another on Surfactant information and formulas used to make your own shampoos and conditioners etc, I would have laughed in your face.
And yet, here I am back from the post office, having sat down with a cuppa and enthusiastically perused the two said books for the last hour! LOLOLOL. Oh the irony of it :-)
Anyway, suffice it to say that my two favourite Australian websites at the moment are Cheeselinks and Aussie Soap Supplies. The former supplies all the cheesemaking essentials including starter cultures for cheese and yoghurt, and vegetable rennet. Buoyed by my success with simple quark, I would now like to have a go at some other creamy cheeses like ricotta and eventually, cheddar (although I will need a press for that, and the room to store it - something I have in short supply...). The latter has lots of yummy ingredients to make your own cosmetics, hair products, perfumes etc, as well as free recipes, and funky little storage bottles and tubes - very cool! Along with their surfactant booklet I purchased a couple of squeezey tubes for the homemade toothpaste I am going to make, along with the ingredients for homemade deodorant and baby shampoo. Cool!
