I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

The Big Switch Off

The Big Switch Off - October 6-7 2007 8pm - 8pm.

Are you game to switch off your power for 24 hours and eliminate your contribution to global warming for one day?

Then go the The Big Switch Off and register!

There's lots of information about it on their website, you don't have to sign up for the full 24 hours either (in fact, anywhere from one hour upwards). It sounds like it could be good fun :-) I've registered my family!

Hi guys, yes we've signed up for a mini-one too, I don't think I could cope with emptying my freezer and turning it off for 24 hours! I've signed up for about 14 hours - that's from 8pm until about 10am the following morning before it starts to get too hot and I can turn the fridge and freezer back on, LOL. Everything else we will keep turned off and we won't use the car for that day either. Cheers :-)
