My kids can't get enough of these; they're cheap to make using household ingredients, they weren't shipped halfway across the world in brightly-coloured plastic containers, and they don't contain any dodgy chemicals or colourings.
Playdough
1.5 cups plain flour
1/2 cup salt
3 tsp cream of tartar
1.5 cups water
1.5 tbs vegetable oil
few drops food colouring, if desired (I don't use it as it tends to stain carpet!)
* Combine the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Combine the oil and water (and food colouring if using), and mix into the dry ingredients in the saucepan.
* Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and dough-like, and it is coming away from the sides of the pan.
* Allow to cool before using. Store in a plastic bag.
Bubble Mix
1/4 cup dishwashing detergent
3/4 cup water
5 drops glycerine
* Measure into a container with a lid and stir gently to combine. The longer this mixture sits, the longer the bubbles last when it is used. Seal leftover mix tightly.

Thanks for the recipes.
I hadn't seen the one with the glycerine in it for the bubbles. I will be giving this one a go for sure. My boys would love it !
Hi busy woman, I find that letting the bubble mix sit at least overnight makes it work better, I don't know why? Have fun :-)
my daughter still loves playing with playdough and she's 11 ~ it's so great for the imagination!!
Ali I love playing with playdough so I couldn't wait to make some for my grand daughter. She's 15 months old. She loves squishing her food so I reckon she'll love playdough too:=)
Thanks for the bubble mix recipe Julie. I haven't made that in about 25 years and I knew I needed something more than detergent and water. What fun.
Hi Julie,
Is there a specific type of glycerin that is required? Would vegetable glycerin work?
Thanks!
Marnie
Hi Marnie,
Vegetable glycerin is fine :-) Have fun!
Cheers, Julie
