Various blogs I read have lately been promoting the Change the Margins website: a campaign to get everyone to widen the margins on every page they print out in order to fit more text on each page, and thereby save paper. Such a simple thing to do!
I've been doing it for many years (and printing everything double-sided of course), so I find it quite annoying that I keep having to change the default settings to narrower margins, so I was quick to sign up to their Petition to Microsoft to change the default settings in their MS Word software. The orginal, wide, settings are there for no other reason than convention!
Changing your settings is very straightforward - if you have Microsoft Word, click on the File tab at the top of the page, then choose Page Setup, and the default page will be Margins in the box that pops up. Here you can adjust the print margins for the file you are working on; I adjust mine down to about 2cm at the sides and 2.5cm at the top and bottom. If you want to change your default settings for all new documents, go back in File, Page Setup and then click on the Default button at the bottom of the page. It will ask you if you want to change the settings for all new Normal template documents; click on Yes.
So, change your margin settings and sign the petition!

What a simple idea! I hadn't heard of the campaign before - thanks for that.
Oh and don't forget of course to print in draft whereever possible!
I agree with Kez, what a wonderfully simple idea! Thanks for posting about it.
Hi Kez, yes I should have mentioned printing in draft mode too! Also such a simple idea, and saves heaps of ink.
No worries, Eilleen :-) Sometimes it's the simplest things that can make a big difference.
