It's been about three weeks since I first set up the mushrooms kits, and now I have teeny tiny baby mushrooms! I've been misting them with water diligently every day, but I haven't left the lid off as the instructions said to: the room I have them in isn't very dark so I was concerned that it might be too bright for them? So I've left the lid sideways to let air flow in but exclude a lot of light - I have no idea if that is the right thing to do, I must do some more research, LOL. Anyway, the first pic is the button mushrooms - that white blob is the first biggish 'shroom forming.
And this is the Portabello mushrooms (excuse the quality of the pic, the flash was washing it all out and you couldn't see the 'shrooms). There are stacks more forming in this one, all around the edges, yum.
Both kits have nothing much in the middle of them yet, I am guessing that this might have something to do with the middle drying out more quickly? I will start misting them twice daily now that the 'shrooms are getting bigger than pea-sized, and see if that helps.

woohoo on the baby mushies ~ Yum :)
That's an encouraging start.
I was given a mushroom kit for Father's Day but I haven't done anything with it yet... but then again at least my worms are furiously munching our leftover boiled rice ;-)
They are pretty yum aren't they Ali? Mmmmm
Terry, is that a challenge?? LOL. Guess what? I actually got around to buying some worms today! Only 500 in case I kill them, but I'll be setting it all up tomorrow :-)
That's very cool - wehere did you get the kit from? I've been hunting around for one (we eat soooo many mushrooms) but no luck yet.
Hi Cat, I got the kits on special at my local nursery, but you can also get them at Bunnings, and some K-Mart and Big W stores. These had the best instructions of all the ones I've seen, and I'm pretty happy with them so far! Cheers :-)
