I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Back to Basics Day #13

Doing: More washing. Hanging it out in the sunshine.

Making: Chocolate zucchini muffins (adapted from this recipe; I used buttermilk instead of soured milk, no ground cloves and sprinkled the tops with chopped walnuts). Makes 12 muffins + 20 mini-muffins.

Dinner: Baked zucchini risotto and salad.

Challenge/s: Finding time to sell all the "good" baby stuff that hasn't been given away yet and is seriously cluttering up my bedroom/ wardrobe/ study/ kids wardrobe.

Solution/s: a) Just Freecycle the lot. Pros: It's quick to list and it's all gone in one fell swoop. Cons: I don't get any maoney back for any of it (some of it was expensive-ish like the baby monitor).

b)"Book" one whole day on a weekend when DH has to mind the kids so I can just get the whole jolly lot sorted out and listed on eBay. Pros: The money from the sales can go towards the organic Christmas lunch we are hosting. Or the mortgage (there's a novel concept). Cons: Time consuming cleaning, listing and posting the items.

Hmmmm. Perhaps I could set myself a goal of listing five items per week until I get rid of the lot?

Transgressions: One too many chocolate zucchini muffins. *Ahem*

Reading: The BuyNothingChristmas.org website. Check out the cute coupons you can print out for homemade desserts, back massages and babysitting.

Utilities for November: Gas 40.2MJ/day; Water 326L/day; Electricity 12.8 kWh/day

Contemplating: Making ricotta cheese.

Footnote: Did I actually post a picture of my washing on the line? Good Lord, I've been reading too many homesteading blogs...

lol at your washing comment, but I like the way the light looks through the white sheet... and the zucchini choc muffins sound delish, did you need to change the recipe much?

lol - yes you did :) And a great photo it is too!

Hi Em :-) No, I didn't change it much, just the differences I listed, and I cooked it as muffins instead of a cake (less cooking time, about 25 mintues).

Hi Kez, thanks :-)
