...Gratefully accepting a dozen fresh backyard chook eggs in payment for the turf from a mate of DH's. I still find the bright yellow of free-ranging chook egg-yolks startling, LOL, despite being raised on my grandmother's free-range eggs.
Planting: Mignonette lettuce seedlings, Green Globe zucchini, coriander/cilantro (ever the optimist, I might get some leaves out of it before it bolts) and the heritage variety low-chill raspberry. I've stuck in right behind my front fence (facing south-east) where it will get very little direct sun in winter - and most of what it does get should be in early morning - so hopefully it *should* get more chill hours than elsewhere in my garden. Fingers crossed!
Picking: My first capsicum of the season :-) Whilst I have been patiently waiting for my green capsicums (peppers) to ripen to red ('cause I love roasted red capsicum!), I couldn't wait so we had a green one on our pizza tonight. Not bad! I have two big green ones just starting to blush with red (they're brown right now actually, they look rather odd), yum yum.
Making: Ginger beer. The batches are most definitely improving as the plant gets older. It's almost as good as real beer on a hot summer's afternoon, but with the added benefit of not dehydrating you ;-) Yum.
Dinner: Homemade pizza.
Reading: The Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan.
Contemplating: What I'm going to cook in the solar cooker trial-run tomorrow. Hmmm, so many options :-) Bread rolls for lunch perhaps?

Are you inside my brain? I'm also reading about making ginger beer. My questions so far: Do I have to make so much? What type of bottles do you use?
Thanks for leading the way.
Can't wait to hear about the solar cooker success... as for ginger beer, care to share a recipe? Sounds yum.
LOL Debby :-D Well, you probably don't have to make so much ginger beer but it's not cordial - you drink it straight - so three bottles doesn't really go a long way. You could use half of the plant and make a half batch, probably?
Hi goingferal(ish), I'm about to post about the solar cooker trial now! I pinched the ginger beer recipe from Rhonda at Down To Earth, so pop over there and do a search for it if you like (sorry, I don't have a direct link to the post), she has great instructions on getting the plant going and making the beer. It is yum!
Cheers, Julie
