Good Lord, the sun actually came out this afternoon!! A much better Valentine's Day gift than anything you can buy at the stores. Speaking of which, we aren't doing anything to celebrate today. I personally feel that the day is so over-commercialised now that even though the original message is lovely, I can't help but feel a bit queasy about doing anything to support it, even if it doesn't require spending any money LOL.
I didn't know how long the sun was going to last, so I raced around the garden to do a quick once over, after all the rain. It feels like weeks since I've been able to get out in it for a wander. Some things have done OK, others not so. I can't decide whether to get rid of my garden blog and just post everything here?
Anyway, the self-seeded Sweet Bite cherry tomato I was about to pull out (because it was finished), has resprouted and has flowers on it:

The edible ginger plants looks like a bamboo grove:

One of the turmeric plants is flowering! Such a pretty white flower:

The leaves are pretty ornamental too:

With the flower hidden down amongst the foliage:

The low-chill rasperry bush I planted a few weeks ago looked like it had died in the humid weather, but it has also reshot, yay:

And I discovered several new comfrey plants I didn't know I had, LOL.

But surprisingly, the Chinese water chestnuts look daggy and terrible? I can't believe it's because there's been too much water, so I can only asssume that it's because the weather has been so unseasonably cool lately (we've been averaging around 24'C/ 75'F at the moment, that's
extremely unsual for this time of year), that it is starting to die down thinking that it's autumn? Anyone else have experience with water chestnuts?

The one dragon fruit flower/ bud that was on my vine last week has now gone :-( I don't know if it dropped off because it was unpollinated, or if something/ someone knocked it off. I noticed them at Coles for sale the other day - $17.95 a kilo! I'm hoping it fruits well next year!

I thought that the spring onion seeds I sowed last week would have drowned in all the rain, but many of them have sprouted, yay!

And so have literally hundreds of tomato seedlings:

But one of my Pinkabelle apple trees is flowering. Since they normally flower in spring, I can't decide if it is the really odd weather, or if all the rain has made it soggy (and sick) enough to try and produce fruit under the stress? Any thoughts?

Oh you are just so inspiring! We have so many of the same plants (which I planted when we moved in last year) and I can't wait to see if they do as well as yours over here in Wit's End!
My dragon fruit is just sitting there and sulking atm but that seems to be the way things are in my garden; chuck a tanty (look like going toes up), sulk (NO growth at all) and then come out to play (double in size in a month!)
Did I mention that I love your blog? :)
Thanks :-D My dragon fuit also sukled for a long time when I first planted it, but this year is going much better thankfully, so hopefully yours will too.
Cheers, Julie
Ah, I meant to type "fruit" not "fuit" and "sulked" not "sukled"! Note to self: proof-read posts!
That Turmeric flower is so beautiful, I have never seen one before.
Yes, I agree!
Did you just plant a bit from a vegie store?
Hi guys, yes it is pretty isn't it? And yep, I just bought some turmeric rhizomes from my local organic produce shop and stuck them in the ground last spring :-) Same with the ginger. I will be interested to see how they go when I dig them up in winter, as I've never had fresh turmeric before, only ever the dried stuff. I do plan to dry it as well (in the dehydrator) and use it that way too.
Cheers, Julie
The flower is so beautiful...I think someone else realize it.
