I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Seven Random Things About Me Meme

I've been tagged twice now for this meme, by both Robin and Late Bloomer, so although I'll probably struggle with this, I'd better get my backside into gear and do it :-)

Seven Random Things About Me

1. At Uni my on-campus shared self-catering unit (or SCU - members were known as S.C.U.M.) was known as "The Jungle" because of all the indoor pot plants I kept, including a large pot plant stand with 8 shelves in my bedroom, and a hanging pole with four plants on it in the lounge room (plus numerous other plants, none of which, amazingly, were edible or smokeable ;-)

2. I played the flute in high school but gave up when my new (young, overweight, male) tutor spent more time staring at my cleavage than at the sheet music.

3. I hate wearing skirts and dresses, they make me feel frumpy and uncomfortable. Yes, I know that's bizarre. I live in denim jeans in winter and long denim shorts in summer. As a bonus, they don't need washing as often as other clothes.

4. I don't have a sweet tooth, but my favourite sweet food is Darryl Lea soft-eating licorice. I don't buy it because I eat the whole bag in one day :-o Am then, predictably, a bit "crook in the guts" afterwards, shall we say...

5. I plan to get my PhD when the kids have all finished school, when I'll be 50. Just because. For now I have a B.Sc. and a Grad. Dip. Env. Mgt.

6. My favourite activity is a tie between making (in our stove top espresso) and drinking coffee (a simple flat white, if you please), and reading. Doing both at once is a little bit of heaven.

7. If I had the opportunity to live somewhere other than here, it would be in Italy. Despite never having been there (and probably never will now that getting there is so un-environmentally-friendly), I love everything about it, particularly the grand gardens, the coffee and the slow food. Sigh :-)
