I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Good things come in threes...

1. Look, LOOK! My beans are growing! Regular readers will know that I can't for the life of me get beans to grow here for some reason, but here I am on the (approximately) 6th try.. and hooray! They are actually growing!

And they are starting to produce flowers :-) Yay.

2. Why is it that - like lettuce - I can't get my rocket (arugula) seeds to germinate in a garden bed, but they will happily self-seed in the crevices between pavers?
Ah well, I do love rocket, so I shouldn't complain that at least some in growing somewhere :-)

3. Look closely... really closely! See those two teeny tiny, pointy green things on the left of this flowers spray? They are baby Starfruit (Carambolas). Mmmmmm mmmmm.

Julie, your beans look a WHOLE lot healthier than mine. The rust has buggered them completely. Anyway....better luck next time right. I've got rocket in a garden bed at present - seems to be doing ok...for now.

I didn't do so great with beans this year. It's good to hear your perseverance has paid off. I'll try again next year and see if I can do any better.
