I'm a bit late posting this but never mind, I've been a bit preoccupied this week! You might have noticed the new banner in my sidebar: After the Earth Hour event last Saturday night, Melinda at Elements in Time decided to challenge us all to continue turning off our lights one hour a week for the next two months (and hopefully continue it long after that). Of course, I think that is a terrific idea, so I joined up immediately. I pledged to continue to turn off our lights every Saturday night between 8pm and 9pm, although you can chose whichever night is good for you. Click on the banner above for the link to join up the Challenge.
Last night was the first night for us, and as we did for Earth Hour the previous week, we turned off all of our lights, and all non-essential electrical equipment (i.e. everything but the fridge - and I didn't turn it off because I can't reach the switch!).
I must say that because Saturday's are normally quite hectic for us, that being somewhat "forced" to sit down and chill out (with no TV and a nice glass of red wine) was rather lovely, and something I think will easily turn into a habit for us.
I know it's past April 1, but head on over and join up - the more the merrier :-)

Hi,
Although I haven't officially joined at this point I did turn all non essential electrics off last night to participate.
I have to say I am enjoying having a reason to turn everything off from 8pm on... Existing by candle light just seems to feel slower.
Kind Regards
Belinda
Just wanted to leave a note to say I found your posts on Peak Oil very interesting. It has got me thinking about preparedness.
We had extra Earth Hour(s) last week with the gale force storms knocking out power to most of Vic for days.
It's nice to slow down and play board games with the kids by solar light with just the dynamo-powered radio chatting away ;)
Hey Julie - are you ok in there? Or are you still kicking back with a glass of red?! Just worried since you haven't posted for a while.
Kerrie
