I know. A bad blogger am I. Sorry!
I haven't disappeared, I've just been preoccupied. Most of you are probably familar with the Kubler-Ross cycle of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance - and how it is now, with addition of a sixth phase labelled "action", commonly applied to those of us that are aware of the severity of the impacts of climate change and peak oil.
Mostly, I've been happily chugging along in the "action" phase, but the last couple of weeks have seen me cycling back to the "depression" phase; the enormity of the whole situation gets the better of me sometimes. Too much time spent reading posts at sites like The Oil Drum and Energy Bulletin, combined with Australian petrol prices shooting up over AUD$1.53 a litre (about US$5.40 a gallon), amongst other bad news lately.
Anyhoo, I knew that I just needed to wait a while and I would eventually cycle back through "Acceptance" and into "Action" again - and I'm happy to say that I am indeed, now back in the swing of things, shall we say :-)
To tide you over until regular blogging resumes shortly, I've just uploaded a heap of garden pics from today onto My Garden Diary for you to peruse :-) Enjoy!

Phew - glad you're OK and just busy 'actioning' :)
Good to see you back on your blog. I am off to check out your garden photos.
Jo
Glad you're back!
Hi,
Glad to see you back. Please know you have company it seems since January that a lot of us have been struggling to keep our action oriented focus.
All we can do is "the next thing" to the best of our ability.
Kind Regards
Belinda
Glad to see I am no the only one struggling to keep up with it all! Somedays it is enough to just get to the end of the day :)
Keep up the good work!
-hugs-
Lis
{Hugs} Yeah it sucks. I was also ok till I started reading doom stuff again and had to push myself back into action. Today I've changed my focus to deep cleaning - totally unnecessary stuff in the big scheme of things, but makes my home seem more comfortable and homely :) Do you read up on Law of Attraction? That helps me refocus.
Hi Kez, thanks for thinking of me mate :-)
Hi Jo! Hi Leah! Thanks for dropping by :-)
Belinda, you are so right, we just have to keep ploughing along doing "the next thing". I just have to stop reading all the doom and gloom, LOL.
Hi Lis, thanks :-) It is a struggle sometimes isn't it? Especially when we have kids, but that's why we do it all isn't it? For them.
Hi Nikki, Obviously great minds think alike, LOL, I've been fixing curtains! Isn't it funny how we (women) retreat to our homes and try to make them a bit more of a sanctuary (warm and cosy) when we are stressed? I've also stopped reading all the bad news coming in and I've set up my lounge room so that it is much cosier and more economical to heat now that the weather is cooling down, and I've planted some winter vegies so I'm feeling much more inspired to get back into the swings of things again :-)
Cheers, Julie
Hi, I just stopped by for the 1st time and don't know your history... but I do know how it feels to get my perspectives skewed by all the doom and gloom news. I saw that you're an environmental scientist, and thought I might offer a suggestion that would 'kill a few smokestacks with a one blastoid' (if you get my meaning).
Since you're fortunate enough to have young ones still at home, why not combine your knowledge and climate concerns with some projects you all could do together?
For instance, I saw a brief story on a boy (age 12 or less) from New Mexico who has traveled to Brazil with his environmental scientist mom a few times. He began to study the frog populations in depth on each subsequent visit and found that when the surrounding environment was cleared for farming that the pond areas began to change drastically, including missing frog populations. His studies are now really useful for the grown ups and he's got purpose to doing something that's fun.
I imagine there's something the kids would get into that you could coach them along with...
Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing!
Julie I'm off to check out your gardening blog again. I too have spent a heap of time in my garden as I find it grounding/Earthing for me to reconnect with the soil.
I am a very practical Taurean. My attitude to Climate Change ATM, is that it is like being stuck at a red light in traffic. I can rant and rave and get myself all stressed about it or I can take this time to regroup, relax and prepare for the journey ahead.
Love, light and blessings gorgeous.
Lara
I wondered where you had gotten to! Action is great, but you are allowed to wallow in the big picture occasionally! I know I do sometimes.
Hi Illoura, thanks for stopping by :-) I love the story about the boy and his frog project, I think that feeling like you are doing something constructive and useful is so important.
Hi Lara :-) Firstly I have to say that Lara is *much* prettier than Crone! LOL. I love your "red light" analogy, I will be keeping that in mind to calm me down a bit, thanks :-D
Hi Gavin, Yeah I think we all get a bit overwhelmed sometimes, but there's nothing for it but just get on with it as best we can, yeah?
Cheers, Julie
