I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

It's lemon season, yay.

Mmmm, yes, it's that time of year again - lemon season! Seriously, who doesn't love a good lemon tart or lemon meringue pie, some refreshing lemon cordial, or a nice piece of fresh bread slathered with lemon butter?

Incidentally, if anyone isn't already growing a lemon tree, I can highly recommend the Meyer lemon. Mine is grafted onto dwarfing rootstock, is just over 1 metre tall and, as you can see, is literally dripping with large, sweet fruit. Gotta be happy with that.

My coffee hedge is also coming along nicely with lots of nice new growth:

But beware adding too much cow manure to new plants. I thought the stuff I added was pretty well composted, but I've managed to "burn" the plants a little anyway, as you can see from the yellowed edges. Whoops.

Another gardening lesson learnt ;-)

What a healthy looking lemon.... You are certainly doing better than my total of 3 fruit set this year congratulations.

Kind Regards
