I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Petrol: "Very ****ing Expensive"

Did you see this ad on telly last night?

I didn't know whether to laugh or sigh! Either way, I like it.

You can help contribute to the GetUp! campaign and help get more ads like this on the air, at the GetUp! website.

Love it! I'm glad you gave me a heads up of the content in the title, otherwise I may have watched it while little ears were around :)

Yep, love it!

I have to admit, I have been sooo disappointed with public transport here. When we used to live about 10 min drive to the school and then from there a 10 min drive to work, I looked at catching public transport and went into shock when I realised that it would take me 1 hour and 45 mins to travel what would have been a 20 min one way trip in the morning. There was just no way I could justify to work that I would have to be almost 2 hours (by the time I've walked from the bus stop) late and would have to leave 2 hours early.

Now that we've moved further, what is a 40 min drive to work is now a 3 hour commute by public transport.

Something certainly needs to be done with the state of public transport here.

(and yes, I do acknowledge that I could just quit my job and take my kids out of the school of our choice but those are changes that I am just not prepared to make).
