Image from VisitNewcastle.com.auMy local market - the Newcastle Farmer's Market - is held almost every Sunday (check the link for dates as it is not on when the showground is being used for other events), and I love nothing more than strolling idly past the stalls laden with fresh bread, fruits and vegetables, organic milk, and amazing-looking gourmet products, all the while with the smell of freshly-ground coffee tantalising my nostrils - ahhh, heaven :-)
This week my jam reserves are getting low, so I am hoping to score some cheap fruit for preserving, yum! There is also an increasing number of stall holders selling heirloom vegetable seedlings - perfect! I'll also be checking them over for some early starters :-)
Coles or Woolies? Pffffft!

I'm with you! I love my farmers markets. When The Dutch Boy and I finally getting around to getting our own place, whatever I can't grow will be from the market. YUM.
Still trying to find one in my area but I'll be lovin' myself sick when I do lol.
Hi Julie,
I just googled 'growing vegies in self-watering pots' (as I have downsized to a unit and am putting them on my balcony) ... and I was thrilled to find an inspirational blog from someone local! I've been enjoying surfing your articles.
As you know, the Newcastle Farmers Market is now on every Sunday at the Showground ... AND did you know that there is a new organic market starting on 18 February in the Hunter Street Mall which will run from 9-3 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday?
Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hello Pauline,
Lovely to hear from another local :-) Yes, I will update this post now as the link to the Newcastle Market site has also changed since I wrote this post - am very excited about the Hunter St markets too, can't wait to see what's on offer, although it's a long way from my place into town!
Cheers, Julie
