I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Growing Food - NaBloPoMo #13

Hi, my name is Julie, and I am an addict.

A seed catalogue addict, that is.

Yep, it's that time of year again ,when all those wonderful heirloom seed-saving organisations send out their catalogues. As usual, they're packed with vegetable names ranging from the practical and abundant-sounding, to the luscious, then the downright exotic, and always accompanied by scrumptious-looking pictures.

I think the pages of most of mine are already stuck together with drool.

Oh for an acreage! Where I could grow melons and pumpkins and potatoes of all description, with enough room to try one of each of those divine-sounding heirloom tomatoes, and space left over to experiment with grains like quinoa and amaranth.

Ah well, probably a good thing I don't have all that space, I'd go broke ordering all those seeds ;-)

lol, I drooled over mine yesterday and ordered a heap more seeds. Currently deciding whether to bid on a compost bin on ebay!

Hahaha, I totally understand!! I'm now trying to hide the mail that comes in for me from Eden Seeds!

God I know what you mean! Ive spent another $90 on the new diggers catalogue this week!

I have a tiny block, but I am giving the melons a bash anyway. Have also conned my mother into letting me set up a mini melon/pumpkin patch at her place (yay).

ooooh I haven't got my diggers catalogue yet.. maybe today!
And you know.. acreage is over rated - we have 10 acres and it is a constant battled to deal with the weeds and plant trees, and keep the non-walking child am used while outside so not much gardening actually occurs right now..

Heh, that's funny. I was just saying to my boyfriend the other night that the Diggers catalogue is my favourite magazine. I loooove seed catalogues, especially when they have nice pictures of foooooood.

Glad you posted this, I have been meaning to join the diggers club for a while but keep putting it off, but you reminded me to do it so yay! Hopefully will get my catalogue soon so I can start figuring out just how much I can cram onto my balcony! PS-Have finally gotten around to starting my own blog - you are one of the many people around here who is helping inspire me to get my *ss into gear :)

You are a lucky girl...

My Diggers seed annual hasn't arrived yet for this year.

I certainly have enough room at this point to ensure I am perennially broke from seed and plant purchases. Now I just have to get the beds created to put them all in.

Kind Regards
Belinda
