I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Isn't it winter here, not spring?

I could understand all the activity in my garden at the moment if it was unseasonably warm, but it *is* actually cold here at the moment! Nevertheless, two of my apple trees are flowering away like it's the middle of spring!

The blossoms are gorgeous, so I won't complain about that :-) I've been like an expectant grandmother though, hovering anxiously over the spent flowers, regularly inspecting their bases for any signs of bulging that might indicate successful fertilisation - and therefore apples on the way ;-) Too early to tell yet though I think, sigh.

In addition, the dwarf peaches are also merrily flowering away; I'm hoping for at least one peach this year to taste test:

The Bowen mango also has burgeoning flower buds for the first time (drool):

And the dwarf mulberry is laden with new fruits, despite having, essentially no new leaves!

P. S. Please excuse me for all the cobwebs in the photos, my housework has been a bit slack lately ;-)
