Never fear though, my slow-cooker deprivation was alleviated when I was presented with a humungous 6 litre cooker at the next gift-giving occaison.
"The Whopper" as I affectionately call it, is currently bubbling away in the kitchen, the contents being a (local, organic, free-range) chicken vegetable soup, which I will serve with fresh, crusty french bread for dinner. Ah yes, my eco-halo is glowing ;-)
Really though, the main reason I have needed to rely on my slow cooker so much lately (apart from the usual getting-back-into-the-school-routine stress), has been this:
Ta da! My very first knitted garment. Once I started the bolero, I just couldn't stop! LOL. Unfortunately, it's too big for Miss 6 (hence the jacket being modelled by My Dining Room Chair), but that's not such a bad thing, as it will fit her nicely next winter, so she'll get more wear out of it.
It's certainly got lots of flaws (the main one being my pathetic "mattress stitch" sewing), but on the whole I am pretty happy with it. I even managed to knit the trim without too much of a drama - although I did need to unravel a reasonable section of it when I got cocky and tried to knit in front of the tv ;-)
It won't win any awards, bit Miss 6 loves it, and it has certainly left me hungry for more projects. Hmmmmmm, lets see, I know I saw some fabulous sock patterns somewhere...

HI Crazy Mumma
The bolero is gorgeous!!! I'm sure she'll love it just as much next year.
Re the slow cooker - I recently decided to give my 30-something crock pot over to the job of maknig herbal oils and treated myself to a new one too - same as yours! Isn't it a beauty? Mine is cooking away at the moment with veges and chicken for dinner - it smells divine already. xx
Greetings from South Carolina. I enjoy reading your blog and look forward to more "sustainability" ideas. We are a family of 6, so we take it step by step. The bolero is lovely (I love to knit too), and I am crazy for my slow cooker.

Hi NW, thanks :-) And yep, isn't the slow cooker fab?
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for stopping by :-) I have found that taking it step by step is t he way to go, otherwise it all gets too overwhelming and discouraging. It always amazes me how far we've come when I look back, because we make such seemingly small, but incremental changes at a time. It all adds up though!
Cheers, Julie
