Check it out!

I was bemoaning on ALS recently the fact that I've spent about 12 months looking for a local, second-hand vacola preserving unit with no luck, when Ta-Da! A fellow ALS-er emailed me to say that she had a spare, was coming through town today, and I would I like it? Would I like it??!! That would be an understatement, LOL.

I picked it up from her this morning and I was even more thrilled when I saw it - it has never been used, includes a brand new thermometer AND she threw in a box of screw-top preserving bottles with brand new lids!

Ahhh, the gods of bottling are smiling on me this weekend ;-)

Now I need to work out how best to use it on my gas cooktop since it kind of overlaps two burners but isn't big enough to sit over both. Hmmm. Perhaps I need a diffuser plate? Suggestions anyone?

Hi Julie,

I am so glad that someone was able to help you out... it certainly is spiffy looking.

Good luck with your new unit I am sure it will bring you many saucy smiles.

Kind Regards

Well done! I have an electric one and I'm sure it will get a good workout again this summer. I have almost eaten all the preserved fruit from 2 summers ago. Let me know if you need any advice. Don't know about stovetop ones though?

A diffuser maybe the only way to go. I use mine on the wok ring of my hob, but have used it outside on the BBQ over the Christmas period to keep the heat out of the house. That might work for you?

LOL thanks Kel :-)

Hi Belinda,
Thanks, I'm really looking forward to firing it up :-)

Hi Kez,
Oh I will!

Thanks Lis, I will be sure to get in touch when I have questions ('cause I will!).

Thanks Gavin, it's good to know that it works on your wok burner, as I looked at mine and thought it would be too small to heat the whole unit up properly but obviously that's not the case, yay!

Cheers, Julie
