I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.
This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.
Look what is flowering today.

Mmmmmm, yum!
Isn't it exciting?! We discovered ours flowering yesterday too :) Altho I was thinking it was a little early?? They're supposed to be an autumn fruiting variety, so does this mean we have to watch and wait for another 5 months? How torturous ;)
Can't wait to put in some rasberry canes next year.

Hi Kez,
Oh gosh I hope I get some fruit, I'll be devastated if we don't LOL. Raspberries are to *die* for I reckon.
Hi Em,
Oh isn't it just? I was lead to believe that they being flowering in December to pick in autumn, so I was confused about that too - must be the recent hot weather we had?
Hi Daisymum,
Aren't raspberries fabulous? I only have three but I can see I am going to have to find room for more.
Cheers, Julie
I do something special on the kids birthdays each year and Kaeden's is on the 1st September so this year (inspired by my constant lurking on your blog ;) ) I decided that we would celebrate the first of spring with buying some plants to nurture. He chose a tomato plant, a strawberry plant and some capsicum.
He is so incredibly excited that his strawberry and tomato are flowering. It is so wonderful to share this with him and he is learning so much.
Thankyou for the inspiration (I can't wait to get into our new house and deck it out in vegie patches :) , we are growing these in a planter box)
Hi Jen,
Oh wow, that's so cool! My kids *love* getting their hands dirty so I need no bribery to get them to "help" me out in the garden, and the looks on their faces when they discover something is sprouting/flowering/fruiting just makes my heart go all mushy ('cause I'm such a wuss ;-). I love watching the lightbulb go on as they make the connections between seeds and the plant and then the fruit or vegetable. No wonder you're a teacher, it must be sensational to watch that occur on a regular basis :-) Good luck with your new place and I hope you're finding some time for yourself these days with the three littlies all vying for your attention no doubt (It's exhausting isn't it? But so cool to watch them all interact).
Cheers, Julie
