Doing: ...Checking my rain gauge again. After complaining that we hadn't had any decent rain for months and that my tanks were empty, we've been wet, wet, wet for days now and more is forecast! In the last four days we've had 246mm, or almost 10 inches in old-speak. The tanks have been overflowing for three days. Wouldn't be nice if we could somehow arrange to have the rain delivered in nice one-inch increments each week? If I could package some up and send it down south I certainly would.
Making: ... Another pencil and notebook holder for my niece's birthday.
Baking: ... Cee's zucchini and sultana muffins. Mmmmm. A big hit.
In The Garden: ... All the rain has been lovely for the garden at least! There's new growth everywhere, and my seeds sown before the rain are mostly up and powering away. Here's my radish seedlings:
And my turmeric is flowering. Pretty, yes?
Dinner: ... Something in the crockpot. Gavin's potato and chickpea curry post at the Co-Op reminded me of a similar slow cooker recipe I have. I also have a large eggplant to use up, so I think his Brinjal pickles might also be on the menu!
Reading: ... Flicking through my book collection to prompt my memory so that I can write reviews for my LibraryThing catalogue.
Contemplating: ... Tearing out my zucchini and squash plants to make room for autumn plantings.

The notebook and pencil holder looks like a great gift. My turmeric plants haven't flowered yet but are growing happily despite the extremely windy conditions we have had this last week.
Wow, I had no idea turmeric was beautiful. Wonder if it would grow here in the US, Zone 7?
Glad the muffins were a hit for you and yours Julie. They are going down beautifully here and we are on about our 3rd batch now I think. We'd love some rain down here for sure, but none is on its way I believe. So do send some!! I will just console myself with some of that potato and chickpea curry. Did you hear that Handmade Help is looking for chickpea recipes?
Cheers
Cee
Hi Tracy,
Thanks :-) Glad to hear the turmeric is going well up your way - I think mine is flowering after all the rain, I'm sure it flowered later last year (must look at my records).
Hi POH,
It is beautiful isn't it? It is related to many ornamental ginger plants that do well as indoor plants, so I suspect that if you think it might be marginal planted in the ground where you live, it could be grown in a large pot in a warm, protected position? Good luck, it's a gorgeous plant if nothing else.
Hi Cee,
Ooh yes, the muffins are delish (and are using up that monster zucchini which got away on me nicely). Yep I noticed the recipe request, so I emailed a few off to Gill, including a chick pea and dog food recipe :-)
Cheers, Julie
Thanks for the link to that notebook & pen holder - I know quite a few people who would appreciate that as a gift (my own child being one of them!)
