My first Amish Paste tomato, grown from seed.
The first garden tomato since wilt killed them off in January.
No idea if (or for how long) they will last in this cold weather, though I overwintered a cherry tom last year, up against the same rock retaining wall.
Fingers crossed.

Yum! I've got some tomatoes growing still too and hoping they will last a little longer despite the cold.
So pretty! I don't even eat tomatoes until they are ripe in my garden. I have lots planted right now. This is my first year to have organic heirloom plants. I'm so excited to be able to save seed this time!
Hi Melinda,
It's been pretty warm so far this season hasn't it? Fingers crossed for a mild witner so we can enjoy them for a little longer.
Hi Laryssa,
It's so simple to save seed too, and really rewarding - good luck with your plants!
Cheers, Julie
That's interesting news, I am trying to overwinter a tomato on my deck with a drycleaning bag. I'm glad to hear that you managed to do it although you are a bit further north.
What do Amish Paste taste like?
Wow, you've still got tomatoes in Australia? My seedlings are almost ready to go into the ground. Amish Paste is new to me this year, the only paste tomato I'm growing. Many people have praised them, and I'm more or less in prime Amish territory, so I'm hoping the plants do well for me.
Good job! Lovely looking paste tomato...hope it tastes as wonderful as it looks.

Hi Julie, You are doing well.Continued good luck.
My heirloom tomatoes, grown from seed, are doing so well in my no dig garden on the front lawn. Bees are buzzing around (we see very few bees here) and little tomatoes are appearing. They almost seem too good to be true! Very rewarding but I am also keeping my fingers crossed.
Regards
Patricia
Hi Deb,
Well paste tomatoes are good cooking tomatoes - as opposed to salad tomatoes - so I stuck in the bolognaise last night and now I can't tell you LOL. Good luck with yours though, the bag is a good idea.
Hi Kate,
I'm on the very southern limit of the sub-tropical zone and we often have much more temperate (cold) winters so I really don't know how much longer the tomatoes will last! Last year I grew a cherry tom up against a rock retaining wall facing north (remember I'm in the southern hemisphere LOL) and it went on producing all winter! Good luck with your Amish Pastes :-)
Hi Kimmie,
Thanks, but I cooked it - I should have tasted it! LOL.
Hi Patricia,
Excellent news regarding the bees! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too :-)
Cheers, Julie
