I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Mmmmmm, chocolate.

My local Coles stupormarket is selling Green & Black's Organic chocolate for 50% off this week - so, naturally, I stocked up! To use in cooking, you understand ;-)

If you don't already read Eilleen's blog, Consumption Rebellion, and know about her stance on child-slavery in cocoa farming, then I highly recommend that you pop over and have a read of her updated list of child slavery-free chocolates, and her explanation of her categories.

Organic chocolate is indeed great to cook with. However, if a piece breaks off even when you are not cooking, you have to do what you have to do in order not to waste it!(Sometimes you just have to eat it...)

hehehe nice to know i'm not the only one busy "stocking the larder" this week :) Their milk chocolate is the best chocolate I have ever tasted!

Cooking with chocolate for me tends to be a recipe with chocolate as the only ingredient! :D

Love Green and Black's - my kids are hooked too.

we always have a pile of that in the pantry from the 'sales. sometimes Si will come home with 10 or so..kids thinks its a ripper! Note: only the mayan gold G&B is fair trade, all else is not. see their website for explanation why.

Thanks for the heads up re: Coles and the props to my blog Julie!

I am soooo craving chocolate right now. I wish Oxfam was 24 hours so I can get their chocolate at any time...oh and they would need to have a delivery service as well. :P

Hello everyone!

@ 100GoodThings - Ah yes, someone after my own heart ;-)

@ Child of the New Forest - Mmm, it is good isn't it? As Kel pointed out though, it's only the Maya Gold which is Fair Trade. The Milk is organic though - and delish.

@ Cath - Ha ha! :-D

@ Kel - Yes, I must edit the post to include that, thanks :-)

@ Rose - Mmmm, don't go too overboard ;-)

@ Eilleen - LOL at the delivery service! :-D

@ Katrine - Yeah, oops, I should have mentioned that, although the other varieties are organic and an infinite improvement on Nestle, so don't feel bad.

@ Anon - Erm yeah, thanks for understanding ;-)

Cheers, Julie
