High Tea
Yesterday we celebrated Miss Seven's impending birthday with "High Tea".
I've been collecting proper bone china tea cups from Op-shops for a few weeks, and we set the table with the 'good' damask table cloth & napkins and got out the cut-glass platters. Then we loaded up the table with home-baked goodies, made by myself, my Mum and my sister - who made the most awesomely cute cupcakes I've ever seen :-)
Scones with jam & cream, slices, cakes and finger sandwiches (with the crusts cut off!) were devoured by all in record time, whilst Daddy played waiter and poured the tea. It was a big hit! Actually, I think the adults enjoyed it more than the kids ;-)
The vintage Singer sewing machine will be given to her on her actual birthday next weekend; I can't wait to see what she thinks.
In the meantime, we are enjoyed a respite from the hot weather here today. All the windows and doors have been flung open as there's wonderfully cool breeze to soak up after the 43'C (109'F) day yesterday which included a skin-fryingly hot westerly wind for most of the day. It literally roasted the leaves of my apples and blueberries and killed a goodly portion of my vegie seedlings. And Summer is supposed to be still officially 8 days away? Phew. Better plan for an indoor Christmas Day celebration I think...
Cheers,

Awww that's so cute! Not really something I can do with my rambunctious boy :(
Ahhh, so glad it went well.
The respite has been welcome here as well. We got no where near as hot as you but even so it was way too early to be in the mid 30's
Kind Regards
Belinda
What a lovely way to celebrate. The food looked delicious too. I think I might have a tea party with my girls during the summer holidays, what a good excuse to buy lovely china too!
cheers Kate
Love love love the idea! Can I please have a girl NOW so I can have a tea party! xo Meagan.
How nice!!! We just celebrated my 7's birthday this weekend. She wanted a tea party with a princess flair. Looks like you guys had a great time too!!

I LOVE High Tea. I should do this sometime with my own daughter. We followed a "High Tea" theme at our wedding reception (without the china though - too hard for 150 people).
Hello everyone,
Thanks for your lovely comments - we did have fun! So much so I'm thinking about doing something similar for Christmas this year :-)
Cheers, Julie
