Sizzzzle...

You know it's hot when even the kale has wilted... Feeling a bit that way myself actually.

It's currently windy and 40'C (104'F) in the shade of the back verandah, which makes it at least 42'C (108'F) in reality - not including the fry-factor in the hot wind.

If you look closely, the minimum last night was 21'C (70'F) too - lovely sleeping weather! Not.

It also makes it impossible to plant out any seedlings.

Even covered with sheeting, they aren't faring too well.

Ah well, it's making planning our Christmas lunch easy - salads and make-ahead finger food ;-) In fact, that sounds like a plan for tonight's dinner. Antipasto platter anyone?

Hope it's nicer wherever you are :-)

Cheers,

Yep, much the same temp here too :(

Yesterday was not great but it's better here today.

At the moment the fog is so thick that I can't see the trees at the end of the yard. I am not going to mention what else it is doing cause I don't want you to dislike me, a lot.

Kind Regards
Belinda

Oooh...yes, please! Antipasto platter sounds lovely!

Hope the heat is over soon.
We had a scorcher yesterday and today it's only 19C! and I'm wearing a sweater. How weird.

All the best with the plants and the planting! :)

Hot and humid here, I feel exactly like that kale.

Temperature is supposed to plummet and rain is forecast tomorrow thank goodness.

It is minus 20 degrees celcius in New Brunswick Canada, which makes it minus 29 with the wind chill factor.

I'm with Mam only just a bit warmer because of the balmy coastal breeze! Ha! I'm not wanting heat just yet but soon I will be. Soon, I'll be sick of winter driving and getting on fourteen layers to feed the hens. The hens are getting mad at me too. They do not like the cold!

I gave up on coriander this year. The extreme weather changes kept killing it. Might try again in a more modest year... if there is ever such thing again.

It feels a little surreal to read this when it is trying to snow outside and is currently 1 degree celcius and falling!

-20c, mam! Gosh that sounds cold!

Hot and humid here on the Gold Coast and rain desperately needed. Lawns are brown, gardens dying and trees struggling. Not even attempting to grow any vegetables.

Patricia we have the same situation here in Brisbane. I remember back to May June July and see photos of how luscious our lawn was then and feel a bit sad to look at it now.

I was hoping to establish a vege garden but I think I'll wait until March when its a bit cooler.

It was 41.5 here a couple of days ago and I managed to kill off one of my worm farms (I have two) because I forgot to bring it inside. Sob! The other worm farm has a few survivors. Even leaving the farms under cover in the shade kills the worms when we get a run of Adelaide heat.

We had a 40 degree day and the shade 'sails' I made blew around in the wind so I need to keep working on a solution before the real summer gets here.
Gardening certainly is challenging in these new weather conditions.

It's SO difficult picturing 40C when it's snowing and bloody freezing. I loathe winter in the UK, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy Oz summer any better. That kind of heat and no water must be incredibly difficult to garden in...
