Jalapeno Chilli

A Photo A Day Challenge: Photo #46

No - it isn't supposed to have those striped marks along it! A product of the horrible weather, I presume. It is, however, my very first Jalapeno chilli, found lurking under a large carrot gone-to-seed and on a plant assumed to be dead. Yay!

I started this challenge on January 5 - it is my aim to harvest at least one thing from my garden every day this year - and photograph it. If I can manage to pick 360 different varieties, then so much the better! This is 46/360.

Cheers,

I found a cayenne on one of my little chilli plants... it is still so small, didn't think it would be producing anything yet! I love pickled jalapenos! I've also read recently about using cayenne tea for pain relief, so am going to give that a try one of these days!

ooooh, ripened jalapenos are my fave.
FYI: often those that have stress marks like that are the hottest. Hot peppers like/need to be abused to get the best heat. The more abuse they get, the hotter they are.

The marks make it look quite interesting. I had marks like that on my Green Zebra tomatoes, the other tomatoes were unmarked.

Those splits on the Jalapeno are quite normal when they turn red. Same thing happens with the Cayenne peppers. We usually eat the Jalapenos when they are still green, but the Cayenne's are much better red.

Hi Dixie,
We must be reading the same blogs, as I'm sure I rad about cayenne tea recently too!

Hi Miranda,
It has certainly been neglected lol, so I'll make sure I only use the one in my next chilli dish :-)

Hi Pip,
Hey, look at you, a profile pic! Nice to put a face to a name :-) I wonder if the green zebras are more susceptible to the heat? Interesting.

Hi Mia,
Ahh, that's good to know, thanks! I did wonder about picking the rest of the green jalapenos before the bugs discover them, so I will now :-) From memory the pickled ones I had once were green, now that I think about it.

Cheers,
Julie

Yeah, my jalapenos are looking the same, and I'm a couple of hundred kms south of you I think. Beautiful nonetheless :)

Are those more of the same lurking in the background? I think your red, red chilli looks amazing

Chillies are ideal for organic gardens since many organic pest control solutions can be made using these spicy vegetables. Lately I haven't had time to make my own pest control, so I've been buying End All organic insect killer and it's been working great.

My jalapenos always have those little lines, as did the ones at the farm where I worked. I think it's normal!

Hi Caitlyn,
Judging by the other comments, they are supposed to look like that, so yay for us! lol.

Hi Mickle,
Yep, there seems to be a fair few green ones as well - I just picked them too :-)

Hi Dixie,
Ah yes! Thanks - and thanks to Mia :-)

Hi Megs,
Ah ha! Thank you, good to know it's not me doing something to them :-)

Cheers, Julie
