Also known as Sweet Leaf. I grew it intending to use it as a substitute for sugar, but the bushes keep dying back in bad weather, so I've yet to do much with it but chew on the occasional leaf.I started this challenge on January 5 - it is my aim to harvest at least one thing from my garden every day this year - and photograph it. If I can manage to pick 360 different varieties, then so much the better! This is 53/360.
Cheers,

I just found some stevia seedlings at a local nursery, but maybe I'll have to bring the pot inside in Winter!
HI - I have been gone for 2 weeks so I need to catch up on your photos and posts. This one caught my eye...I just bought seeds to start Stevia plants. Can you tell me how to use it once it grows? Leaves? seeds? Thanks. Emily
Hi Dixie,
It naturally dies down over winter here and comes back again in spring, so I wouldn't worry too much about it - it's the humidity and hot winds that keeps knocking it around this summer!
Hi Emily,
I am using the leaves, they are very sweet! I haven't had that much to play with in cooking yet though, but there are some great recipes around the internet if you Google :-)
Cheers, Julie
Thanks Juli - I was thinking of just steeping them in hot water with tea. I will go on an google search soon.
I know if my area it will only be an annual and I will need to re-plant in spring. We get a little too cold in the winter for it to make it through to another year. If I can get my act together, I will start it inside early enough to get a good start on it. I am way pat that for this spring, so there is always next spring!!
Emily
