I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.
This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.
Heritage Raspberry
A Photo A Day Challenge: Photo #56
The first of the autumn-bearing Heritage raspberries are coming on, yum. I started this challenge on January 5 - it is my aim to harvest at least one thing from my garden every day this year - and photograph it. If I can manage to pick 360 different varieties, then so much the better! This is 56/360.Cheers,

Oh, that looks yummy!
Ours are just...about...ready...
Hmmm - I'd better go check again!
:-)
Gorgeous photo... I made a cheesecake the other day with our 5ripe raspberries and one ripe strawberry!!
I just bought 15 Heritage Raspberry bushes, I hope my turn out as pretty as yours!
Just found your blog via Maggie from seed savers. I shall carry on following it. I'm surprised you can grow raspberries succesfully. Here in Italy I've tried without success and people have told me they only thrive i cool conditions 500+ metres up.
Hi Erika,
They are a bit early this year actually, good luck with yours. Hope you haven't been washed away in all the rain!
Hi Daharja,
Any luck? They won't be far behind I'm sure :-)
Hi Dixie,
LOL, I bet they tasted awesome too!
Hi Aimee,
Oh! I wish I had room for 15 plants, lucky you! Enjoy :-)
Hello Heiko,
Generally raspberries are cool climate plants, however the variety I grow, 'Heritage', is an autumn-bearing plant which is cut back to the ground in winter and flowers on the new growth, unlike spring-bearing raspberries which fruit on second season canes, which means that flowering for the Heritage variety is not so dependent on a cold winter. There are several other varieties of autumn-bearing raspberries, and you might find one in your area if you Google them? Good luck :-)
Cheers, Julie
LOL, I am starving sicne I looked at that berry.
Anyway, just wished to say well done and keep at your idea.
