I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.
This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.
SharpBlue Blueberry
A Photo A Day Challenge: Photo #58
The main flush of blueberries is in spring, but we also get a small flush of berries in late summer, enough for the girls' to snack on whilst playing outside. I started this challenge on January 5 - it is my aim to harvest at least one thing from my garden every day this year - and photograph it. If I can manage to pick 360 different varieties, then so much the better! This is 58/360.Cheers,

Yummy Julie! Aren't they just beautiful to look at? And I'm sure they're even better to eat. Sadly I have managed to kill my two blueberry bushes.....lack of water me-thinks. Will have to try again with some new ones.
My daughter is a berry person too. Hopefully we will plant at least strawberries for next year so she can eat her fill!
Hi Anita,
Oh how sad your bushes died - they do need a bit of water and this summer was so hot. I moved mine into partial shade this year and they are doing really well now, especially since the roots are kept cooler now.
Hi anon,
Mmmm, how good are homegrown strawberries? Incidentally, commercial strawberries have the highest residual levels of pesticides in them of all fruits - another great reason to grow your own organically!
Cheers, Julie
