I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.
This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Twenty Two :: Bromeliads ::
What can I say? My favourite plants of all time; awesome colours, textures and forms. I'm addicted!
hee--when I saw the WORD bromeliads I said (outloud, tho' alone) "ooh!" and clicked on it right away. =) Why are they so compelling? I think part of it for me is their veritable independence of soil (at least the one I have and the ones I saw in Central America, decorating the trees). biologically enigmatic. =)
Gorgeous. I don't think they grow particularly well in Melbourne (not humid enough), but we stayed in a place in Nambucca Heads a few years ago where the garden was full of them! They were magnificent :-)
Love Bromeliads too - almost weightless when you tip the water out, and great for covering sloping areas where we were infested with wandering jew. The bromeliads out competed the wj somehow?
