I'm Julie, and I live with my husband and three young daughters in New South Wales suburbia, Australia. This is the online journal I kept until recently, of how we are trying to live more simply & sustainably in suburbia.

This blog is on indefinite hiatus but please feel free to look around my archives for some inspiration in your own journey to living more lightly and sustainably.

Hello friends!

Firstly let me say a huge thank you for all the tips and well-wishes you left on my last post, you guys are awesome :-)

I'm back, and I missed you too.  I have so many  things - both good and bad - running around in my head right now that I don't even know where to begin which is why I have neglected to post for a while.  Truth be told, I have very much enjoyed the time away from posting; away from spending precious time mentally composing blog posts or reading blog posts, & taking and editing photos almost every day.

I've also been on a self-imposed media embargo since the Federal election was called (I just don't want to know about it; both major parties are, frankly, woeful when it comes to environmental & social policies), which has also resulted in more mental time to devote to thinking about where we are in our journey, and where we want to go from here.

Anyway, please indulge me for a little longer while I get myself sorted out ;-)  I do have some garden shots to share when I get around to loading them onto the blog (a painfully long process on my outdated pc), so I won't be completely abandoning you!

In the meantime, I'm afraid you'll just have the imagine to utterly delicious scent of the Jonquils in the mum's garden, above. Heavenly. Despite my frozen toes, apparently Spring is on the way!

Cheers for now,

Bloggy break

Hello peeps,

I'm going to be away from my computer for a couple of weeks while we go a'holidaying away from home, so there will be a short break in transmissions.  I have had a large number of readers unsubscribe during this past month, but hopefully I can come back refreshed and offer you something more interesting to read :-)

I am really looking forward to some time spent just chillin' with my family. Maybe some knitting will be involved, some light reading is on the cards, and almost definitely there will be some beginner quilting lessons as I ply my Mum with questions ;-)

So, au revoir my friends for the moment.  In the meantime, I leave you with my quickie solution to this little mishap:

Problem: One steaming hot bowl of soup + one varnished table top = one giant heat mark + one cranky mother.  Sigh

Solution: Two stained cotton terry tea towels + two old, worn bathroom hand towels = four much more heat-absorbent placemats than the thin cotton tablecloth I usually use.

I just cut them both in half and sewed them together, trimmed the larger hand towels down to size, then turned them the right way out and top-stitched. So far they are working a treat.

Cheers for now,

White Icicle Radish

A Photo A Day Challenge: #110

I started this challenge on January 5. It is my aim to harvest at least one thing from my garden every day this year - and photograph it. If I could have managed to pick 360 different varieties, then so much the better! This is photo #110 of what is now a possible 288 photos/varieties.

Cheers,

Cherry Red Radish

A Photo A Day Challenge: Photo #109

If nothing else in the veggie garden is growing, at least radishes are reliable ;-)
