Wherever you are across Australia, sweltering in the heat or sandbagging against more flooding, I hope you get the chance for a cold beer or a slice of pavlova today (or both, like us!).
I know it's over-used but it is Australia Day and the second stanza of Dorothea Mackellar's poem My Country just has to be repeated:
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
Cheers,

Happy Australia Day, Julie! Hope yours is blessed! :)
Happy Australia Day too Julie, It's 7am here in Qld and I've walked the dog before the humidity arises and I'll spend a lot of the day waiting for the evening so I can plant out my seedlings!
Is it wrong to want to forgo Australia Day community activities and just want to spend the day hanging at home? I hope not 'cause that's the plan for me, I'll be baking bread for me and a friend, and that's about all.
Happy Australia Day Julie!
Wowsers it's going to be a hot day for you there, hope the fridge is stocked with cold drinks and the backyard pool is full. Enjoy your day :)
Have a wonderful day!
Now THAT is Australia Day weather! (she types, not at all regretfully from the comfort of a 23 degree weather forecast). Have a lovely, lovely, pavlova-filled day...
Same Smokey fog here in Merewether too!
It was sooo hot on Australia Day. Julie, did you make it to Speers Point Park? So glad I "found" you. I cooked your Lilli Pilli jam using the same little berries that have a clove taste. BTW I live in Lake Macquarie too. The jam ended up a lovely colour with a ginger and citris marmalade flavour. Thank you for helping me take my first step towards sustainability!
Hello everyone, thanks for your good wishes!
We did have a great day, very relaxing, just chilling with family :-)
Anonymous, no we didn't make it to the park as we were visiting with family, and sitting in their air conditioning! Glad to hear your jam turned out - it's rather nice isn't it?
Cheers,
Julie
