What a shame (for me) about the overlocker your friend has, if we lived a bit closer I'd be there in a flash LOL.

Hi Bron,
Good luck with your curtains! I reckon they would be a pretty straight forward bit of sewing to start with? Have fun anyway :-)

Hi Nicole,
Thank you :-)

Hi Clare,
Thanks :-) I think the way we are going it won't be long before we have no more lawn either - what an excellent goal!

Hi Melinda,
Terrific, thank you for the tips. I wondered what differential feed was for, so now I know :-) And you're right about cheaper machines, I didn't end up going to Spotlight in the end as I would like to support a smaller local business and (in theory) set up a relationship with them. I just have to find one now.

Hi Pip,
Oh, what an excellent tip, thank you! I actually bought some elastic thread the other day too, as I want to have a go at shirring, and that makes perfect sense to use it for gathering. I know our local spotlight doesn't give lessons, in fact I've had problems finding someone who knew more about the machines than I did, and I'd never sewn on that model before! IMO (from having worked in a sewing shop) you are better off buying from a specialised dealer and paying a little more.

When you buy one, spend the extra and get differential feed. It makes a world of difference to your overlocking, the results are a lot better and it's much easier for you.
