Africanaussie - I harvest my ging...</title><content type='html'>Hi everyone :-)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Africanaussie - I harvest my ginger and turmeric as I live so much further south than you and it will rot in the ground over winter otherwise. It would be much easier to leave it in the ground!  I pickle the ginger using a dry sherry - traditionally rice wine or mirin would be used but I don&amp;#39;t have any and it&amp;#39;s more expensive than cooking sherry ;-) Just cover the peeled root with the sherry and seal. Store in the fridge and eat within around 6 months (although I&amp;#39;m still eating mine from last year with no ill effects). I live up in tropical north queensland and am just starting to grow a lot of what you are growing. Do you have a recipe for your pickled ginger posted?  I  saw a reference to it, but couldnt find a recipe. Last year I just left the tumeric in the ground and harvested it as I needed it through the dry, and it just came up again this year in the same spot.  Is there a reason you harvest it all at once rather than leaving it in the ground?
